The laminator is found in the Copy Room located behind the Charging Desk, adjacent to the Reference Collection.
It must be turned on about 20 minutes before use to warm it up. Turn the Heat button from Off to On. After 20 minutes, ask the employee at the desk to get the laminator key. Place the key in the keyhole and turn it. Make sure the binder clip is attached to the film coming out of the back of the machine. This ensures that the plastic does not wrap around the rollers. Place the materials to be laminated on the tray. Turn the Drive button to the Run position and push the materials into the film. When all of the materials have passed the cutting row on the back of the machine, turn the Drive button back to Off. Use a pair of scissors to cut the film from the machine. Turn the Drive button back to Run to release a little more film. Turn it back to Off. Replace the binder clip. Turn the key and remove it. Turn the Heat button to Off.
Return the key to the employee at the front desk. Measure the film you used and pay the employee at the front desk 25 cents a foot.
First, double check that you are typing in your User ID (the E number on the back of your ID card) and PIN (current password picked up at this year's Registration). If it still doesn't work, please contact Bob Park at x. 1518. He will need your name, your User ID, and your password. If you have the current information, he will reset your password. If you do not, you will need to come to the library with your ID card and get your new password.
Patrons can check out up to 10 books. The library limits the number of materials that can be checked out to each user for several reasons. Firstly, we limit the number of materials to ensure that all patron's have access to materials needed for assignments and research. Secondly, we limit them to make sure that if a patron leaves the university without returning the materials we do not lose an excessive number of materials. Finally, we do make adjustments to the number of materials checked out on an individual basis. If you need additional materials, please speak to one of the full-time library employees.
The videotape collection is located in the Administrative section of the library. To obtain materials, please ask an employee at the Charging Desk for assistance.
The CD collection is located at the end of the Current Periodical Collection.
ESL books (books with simple English for second language learners) are located across from the Circulation Desk.
Children's books are on the main level of the library in the Robert C. Baden Children's Collection. They are located on the short shelves near the conference rooms. These books are shelved according to the Dewey Decimal system.
Magazines are non-circulating, they cannot leave the library. Copy machines are available to photocopy articles.
The library does not purchase or hold textbooks used in classes being taught at Concordia University.
ID cards are required to check out materials! Driver's licenses and other photo ID cards will not be accepted. ID cards are also required to use a conference room, to check out reserve materials, and to use audio/visual equipment in the library.
The copier and copier/printer are in the Copy Room behind the Circulation Desk.
There are two ways to determine when checked out materials are due back in the library. Date due cards are placed in the pockets of books and within the cases of videotapes and CDs. The last date listed on the card is the date the material is due back in the library.
You can also check the status of materials online. Go to http://library.cui.edu. Click the library catalog link. Click the User Services button. Click the User Status Inquiry link. Type in your User ID (the E number on the back of the ID card) and PIN (password). Click the Display User Information button. Click the Checkouts link. The due date appears on the right side of the screen in bold.
There is no drinking fountain within the library. If you go down the sidewalk, through the next set of double doors and go down the stairs, there is a drinking fountain. There is also a drinking fountain in the Theatre Lobby at the other end of this building.
BannerWeb passwords are distributed through the Registrar's Office.
For more information, see the Student FAQs at the Registrar's site.
Restrooms are located on the lower level to the right of the stairs.
